SIGMA Equipment - Rigger / Millwright
About the Role:

Our rigging team is responsible for the safe and efficient rigging of machinery for transportation from job sites to our warehouse location in Evansville, IN as well as preparing equipment for final transportation to customer. We ship a wide variety of processing and packaging equipment. Members of this team are responsible for safely operating heavy material handling equipment to lift, move, secure and position equipment, parts, and materials. Our riggers ensure equipment is properly dismantled, rigged, staged and loaded on to appropriate shipping method/container. The end goal is that equipment arrives undamaged at final destination. When the rigging team is not on the road or at a job site, he/she will be utilized as an additional warehouse associate reporting to the warehouse manager.

Essential Functions:
  • Ensures personal safety and safety of rigging team at all times
  • Performs operation of various equipment
  • Must be willing to travel as needed and often with little notice
  • Follow process models to prepare for offsite trips
  • Assimilate logistics – where you are going, how many stops, materials and tools needed for job site
  • Ability to work from prints, lift plans sketches, or verbal directions to assemble and locate equipment
  • Riggers are also responsible for selecting rigging gear based on weight and distribution of load, availability of hoisting machinery, and the presence of obstacles which might interfere with maneuverability of incorrectly rigged hoisting gear
  • Be able to operate all material-handling equipment including forklift/skid steer with a high degree of skill and perform work with minimal supervision
  • Controls movements of heavy equipment through narrow openings or confined spaces
  • Selects gears, cables and shackles according to load size, facilities and work schedule
  • Signals or gives direction to workers engaged in hoisting and moving loads to ensure the safety of workers and materials
  • Test rigging to ensure the safety and reliability before engaging in hoisting and lifting
  • Physically secure the load to ensure equipment is not damaged during loading, transport, and unloading
  • Dismantles, maintains and stores rigging equipment
  • Light repairs and scrapping of equipment
  • Responsible for assembling and disassembling equipment for shop and picture wall projects

Mnimum Qualifications:
  • Previous Millwright/Rigging experience is an absolute requirement
  • High school diploma or GED; associates degree is strongly preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years forklift experience
  • Ability to obtain a Class A CDL within 6 months
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Sufficient work experience in the maintenance and operation of a wide variety of rigging equipment
  • Must have knowledge of all applicable environmental safety and health rules, procedures and regulations
  • Must be able to use hand tools and power tools safely and efficiently
  • Must be willing to travel on a regular basis, often with little advance notice
  • Must be physically capable of performing the essential functions of the position
  • Successfully pass a drug and alcohol screening
  • Must be able to work at heights, in confined spaces and have the ability to climb staircases and ladders of varying sizes
  • Must be able to continuously push/pull, stand and work with arms extended at shoulder level
